You must be kidding ! They are probably one of the most backward-thinking country of Asia when it comes to gay rights (and freedom of expression or original thinking, generally speaking)
Being gay in Singapore is still a crime. Their Parliament recently voted to legalize men to practice sodomy on women but refused to legalize it between 2 men. These MPs are really a bunch of weirdos.
There are full fledged gay prides in Taiwan and Thailand already. This event in Spore, though significant for gay Singaporeans is just a minimalist event, that can happen in one very specific park of Singapore only. All other public demonstrations are prohibited (whether about homosexuality or any other topic).
Gosh ! I sure hope that this country is not leading the way for the rest of Asia.

I've never been to Singapore so i don't really. I read it's illegal there but still there is a gay life, demonstration and a (big) beginning of talk about it.
Vietnam is the opposite, it' legal but there is no gay life (in Hanoi only 2 bars & 2 saunas! (and well sauna are not part of what i call life ;))) and for 99% of (straight) vietnamese homosexuality doesn't even exist.
I prefer the situation where things are moving not the vietnamese status quo...
Considering the rest Asia, i don't really know neither but here is what i think IMHO(!): thailand: seems not problem though gayz are still often considered sissy guys laos/cambodia: no idea India: becoming a bit accepted though still illegal Malaysia/Indonesia: shitty situation except big city i think (ask robb ;)) China: probably similar to vietnam except in very big cities though it's still very hidden Japan/Korea: probably also non existent for most of the people...
